Abstract

The question of modernity and postmodernity is one of the most

important topics that has aroused great interest and widespread debate

in various fields of human thought in general, and in literary criticism in

particular. In examining the trajectory of modernity and postmodernity

in Western philosophical and literary thought, one can observe

significant contradictions and differences between them. It would seem

that postmodernity has emerged to negate and replace modernity. But

that postmodernity has emerged to negate and replace modernity. Butthe truth is not so simple. As long as modernity remains an unfinished project, according to some critics, postmodernity has emerged to continue the Western intellectual journey and to complete and complement the project of modernity. It serves as a servant of Western thought, reinforcing its centrality and power.
