Abstract

Autism is a developmental disorder that appears in early childhood and particularly affects communication abilities. From this standpoint, the current study aimed to reveal the difficulties of verbal and non-verbal communication among autistic children between the ages of 9 and 14 years. The study sample consisted of 7 cases with moderate degree autism, not accompanied by a mental disability or auditory or visual sensory deficit. . The sample was taken from private centers and clinics in Algiers, where we applied a list for assessing verbal and non-verbal communication skills in a child with autism spectrum disorder by researcher Ibtisam Al-Hassani (2020). Relying on the descriptive approach, we found that the sample members had relative control over the various skills necessary for verbal and nonverbal communication. This is due to several factors, the most important of which are early detection and diagnosis, as well as early multidisciplinary care.
