Abstract

While analyzing and studying the different castles in the Sahara, we deduce and understand well how life used to be like; an analysis reflecting the splendor of its builders in one hand and on the other hand the economic, social and political fields of life of that society, a society which braved and affronted nature leaving great monuments worth to be studied and protected as well. One of the region containing these great and interesting buildings and monuments is the region of Touat. Thus, the observer of the castles deduces that the region witnessed permanent and everlasting wars, the thing that is too apparent and so clear through its defensive system brought from that of the Islamic structural building. In this intervention, we try to focus on the castles in the Touat region and highlight one of its important features; its defensive structural and urban building.
