Socio-economic dimensions of fragile housing in Algeria

Abstract

This research aims to explain the nature of socio-economic aspects of fragile housing in Algeria, furthermore the causes of fragile
housing in Algeria. High population density has resulted into exerted pressure on demographic demands for housing thereby
constraining resources and fueling propagation of poor housing. The quality of living for Algerian families is also another issue
under discussion; due to high costs of living and decrease of purchasing capability, many families are occupied with brittle housing
environments.
Also, variations in national income per capita also contribute to economic antineighborhood quality and the availability of affordable
house to residents of low incomes. Internal and the external migration increases the problem as such migrants have little option but
to live in the substandard accommodation. Lastly, the conversion of vast tracts of land for construction purposes as a solution for
housing deficits often leads to the development of emergent urban areas without adequate basic infrastructure making the new
housing structures more susceptible to disaster impacts.
