Abstract

The Algerian modern novel was able to explore/discuss several issues related to the formation of the self; it dealt with identity which is considered the foremost component of group affiliation. Equally, the Algerian narrative discussed issues of religion, history, and politics for being definers and shapers of group existence. These different orientations were the focal points of the current study in which the researcher focused on the dichotomy of truth and illusion in the realistic social movement and that of creativity and art. The investigation i then done through considering dualities of self versus identity and life versus death. This is considered the core issue for understanding the link between reality and illusion.
