The Reality of Private Tutoring from the Perspective of Fourth-Year Middle School Students: A Field Study in TiziOuzou Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
The fourth year of middle school is an important transitional stage in the educational system, as students prepare to take the Brevet d'EnseignementMoyen (BEM), which increases academic pressure and promotes reliance on private tutoring. This study aimed to identify the main reasons driving these students to engage in such tutoring. To achieve this, we conducted a field study at two middle schools in the Wilaya of TiziOuzou. A simple random sample of 80 male and female students enrolled in the fourth year of middle school for the 2023-2024 academic year was selected.
The "Private Tutoring" questionnaire, developed by the researcher CherikOuiza, was distributed to the students. After statistical analysis using SPSS, the results showed variations in the reasons among the sample members. Educational reasons ranked first, followed by personal reasons, and finally, social reasons. Additionally, no statistically significant differences were found in the engagement in private tutoring between genders.
