Problems of teaching physical education and sports at the primary level in Algeria from the point of view of specialized teachers

Abstract

This study aimed to know the reality of teaching physical education and sports in the primary stage in
Algeria by specialized teachers, as well as to know the most prominent problems related to various
aspects of teaching in terms of educational objectives, curriculum content, teaching methods and
educational means, the teacher and evaluation, in the hope of identifying them and reaching possible
solutions. The study sample consisted of specialized physical education teachers for the primary stage
who were hired as contractors to teach physical education and sports for the first time in the history of
Algerian education, numbering (80) teachers, where we relied on the questionnaire tool to measure the
hypotheses, which included four axes, and the results of the study were as follows: The lack of
specialized training for teachers to teach the modern second generation (2023) curriculum for physical
education and sports for primary education made it face a set of difficulties and problems in a number
of aspects related to the application of the proposed educational situations in the modern curriculum,
2023 edition. The lack of capabilities and pedagogical means necessary to implement various sports
physical activity activities during the physical education and sports class available in the institution,
and their lack of compatibility, if any, with the proposed educational situations in the curriculum are
considered the most important obstacles to the development of the level of sports practice in the
primary stage. The unsuitability of the spaces allocated for practicing physical education and sports for
all the included sports activities, and the lack of these spaces on all security and safety standards.
