Abstract

This paper investigates strategies for empowering local governance performance in Algeria, with particular reference to some of
the municipalities of Algiers. It explains how local administration performance became more important through decentralization
and citizen involvement. The research focuses on the current issues, such as limited resources, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and
lack of community engagement that Algerian municipalities face. It proposes tools for empowerment, including the training of
local officials, transparent decision-making, and citizen involvement in local matters. This paper explores empowerment strategies
for strengthening local governance in selected municipalities of Algiers, related to decentralization, citizen participation, and
capacity building for local officials as mechanisms that may result in more responsive and effective local governance.
