Abstract

The aim of this study is to present and analyze a collection of Andalusian letters from
Diwaniyah produced, in the first half of the 7th century AH, by Ibn Umayra al-Makhzoumi, the
famous writer passionate about history and literature., known for the elegance of its ornate style and
the abundance of its language. He lived an administrative and scientific life full of achievements and
events, since he held high positions in various countries, during which he traveled to numerous cities
in Andalusia, the Maghreb and Tunisia, and has witnessed major political events. It represents an
important link and a distinct stage in the chain of development of Andalusian literature, which
reached, in its time, the peak of its development in all its aspects. This stage was completed and had
its own character; it was the stage which opened the way for the emergence of a generation of writers
known in the 8th century AH. The letter has a particular structure and a well-known artistic form,
and certain characteristics which are like the fundamental pillars of the letter, which are the
beginning, the body, then the end or conclusion, and each of them has its own character.
