Abstract
Through this paper, we wanted to delve deeply into the issue of the duality of the self and the other in contemporary Algerian poetry, and to highlight how this duality is central to the construction of contemporary poetry, and how the poem “I am the Universe” by the poet Jilali Hallam reflects this problem,as it shows The poem is the suffering of the poet’s ego and her sense of failure resulting from the sharp gap between her ambition and the reality of Arab society, which is characterized by submission and surrender. It also expresses the psychological conflict buried in the subconscious of every Arab Muslim “ego,” as a result
of the conflict existing between the Arab and Western civilizations.
