Sociolinguistic Variation and Literary Themes in a Multilingual Landscape: Voices of Algeria

Abstract
This study investigates the intersection of sociolinguistic variation and literary themes in the multilingual landscape of Algeria. The linguistic diversity of Algeria, with its prominent use of French, Modern Standard Arabic, Algerian Arabic, Kabyle (Tamazight), and Hassaniya, provides a unique backdrop for literary creativity. By examining how Algerian authors utilize language choice to reflect and thematize sociolinguistic diversity, this research aims to fill the gap in the existing literature on Algerian multilingualism in literature. The study focuses on notable Algerian writers such as Jean Amrouche, Assia Djebar, Malika Mokeddem, and Djamila Morani, and employs both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to analyze the representation of sociolinguistic variation in their works. The findings reveal significant insights into the interplay between language and literary expression, highlighting the role of multilingualism in shaping Algeria's literary landscape.
