The use of cold weapons in the school environment - an exploratory study of the causes and factors

Abstract

This study addresses the factors that lead to the use of knives in the school environment, mainly the
psychological, school and social factors. The current research evolved a central question: What are the
factors leading to the use of knives in the school environment? The study also adopted a number of
hypotheses, including: psychological factors lead to the use of knives in the school environment, school
factors lead to the use of knives in the school environment, social factors lead to the use of knives in the
school environment, to verify the validity of these hypotheses, the researcher has set the following
objectives: the study aims at revealing some of the factors that lead to the use of knives in the school
environment, highlighting the crime of carrying a white weapon among a sample of educated adolescents, In
order to achieve these goals, the descriptive approach was used. This study has used an interview, which
contains closed, and open questions as well as a questionnaire which is built by the researcher. The
questionnaire consisted of 3 main axes (psychological factors, school factors, and social factors) and 15
items. The results have fulfilled the study’s hypotheses as: psychological factors lead to the use of knives in
the school environment, school factors lead to the use of knives in the school environment, and social factors
lead to the use of knives in the school environment.
