The Relative Contribution of Both Self-esteem and Academic Achievement to the Prediction of Perceived Stress among University Students

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relative contribution of both self-esteem and academicachievement in predicting perceived stress among university students, and to determinewhether there are statistically significant differences in perceived stress attributable to thevariable of gender. To achieve the study’s objectives, the researcher administered aperceived stress scale and a self-esteem scale to a sample of 406 students from theUniversity of Oran. The results indicated that there were no statistically significantdifferences in perceived stress attributable to gender, and that both self-esteem andacademic achievement had a statistically significant contribution to the prediction ofperceived stress.
